Its been awhile since we had some new and original Candi Staton material on the dancefloor! Forget about re-edits and bootlegs – this is the real deal!
Mavis is Ashley Beedle and Darren Morris’ new project. Their debut album on K7 features Candi, Edwyn Collins, Ed Harcourt, Kurt Wagner and more. As all of the songs are lovely and mellow, Cosmo and Ashley decided it was time to mix it up and give Candi’s song “Revolution” a new spin. Their DarkStarr Mix is the result.
Mavis ft. Candi Staton “Revolution” (DarkStarr Mix) and (DarkStarr Dub) will be released on Bitches Brew at the end of March. Its already getting play by Craig Charles on BBC 6 Music and Jazzy B from Soul to Soul on BBC London Live.
It will be released as part of the Bitches Brew limited edition 10-inch series with hand silk screened jackets and hand stamped labels. This is a follow up to debut release of the series, Horace Andy & Ashley Beedle “When The Rain” (Cosmodelica Mix) which was a huge success. Subsequent releases on the limited edition 10-inch series will include DarkStarr Mix of Salvador Santana and a Cosmodelica Mix of Phenomenal Handclap Band.
Here’s the mp3 of the radio edit for your listening pleasure.
The B Side will be a DarkStarr Dub and will not be released digitally but only on vinyl. Heads up to the vinyl lovers!
Cosmo and Ashley Beedle joined forces as DarkStarr, a production, DJ and blog outfit celebrating the psychedelic side of the dancefloor. Their compilation DarkStarr’s ‘Psychedelic Disco-Tech: They Live By The Night’ will be released in April on Music Response Records. They will be playing at Glasgow’s deepest disco party Melting Pot on March 6th and will be starting a brand new London residency at Horatia this Spring, kicking off on Saturdays May 13th and April 10th (the album launch party), so stick those dates in your diaries right now. To keep up to date on their events check out the DarkStarr Facebook.
And if that isn’t enough, there’s more! Time to get all chin-strokey and check out their history of disco discussion with pre-eminent journalist Paul Morley on the Guardian website.
