DJ Harvey tape cassette

Next up in the series of old & new mixes via the Love Unlimited Sound System we have a tape from around 88/89 (ish) by DJ Harvey. This 60 minute mix from way back represents his US & UK House sound.

Originally a drummer, before progressing into the fields of DJi’ng, producing & re-editing. Releases have come from artists & labels as diverse as Ian Brown, the Avalanches, the Brand New Heavies & Jamiroquai to Junior Boys Own, Mo’ Wax, Moton Records, Ministry of Sound & Dorado Records. His relases on Black-Cock Records, with Gerry Rooney and as the Map Of Africa on Whatever We Want Records are in high-demand.

Some of the clubs he’s gained his reputation & status at include the Tonka Sound System, Solaris, his own night Moist bringing over a host of New York DJs including Larry Levan, Francois Kevorkian and Kenny Carpenter), Ministry of Sound, New Hard Left, Beautiful Bend & currently Sarcastic Disco.

As a DJ his sets are a mix of old & new classics and the obscure – with marathon sets covering disco, house, garage, dancefloor friendly rock records, re-edits and cosmic tracks.

Now residing in the US of A he is owner & musical director of the ThirtyNine Hotel – a multimedia space in Honolulu in Hawaii & holds quarterly Sarcastic Disco parties in LA. Visit both sites to find out more.

Enjoy the mix.

Hi buzzardio – glad you liked the mix.

I dont think its m/o/s – pretty sure the compilation you are after is on the old Journeys By DJ’s label.

Happy Hunting.

Cheers

Its a beauty. There are more from the same time. There are Zap club recordings. I did them. I don’t have them any more. Anyone out there?

Love those Black Cock edits he did. BEWARE recently there have been a whole lot of (poor) bootlegs released, you can tell them by the label colour and type set.

Harvey is the mutts nuts, very underated dj, used to go a quite a few tonka do’s in the early 90′s @ the zap & major jump arches in brixton etc, also moist @ the gardening club, best partys ever, with a proper eclectic mix of ppl & music!! Harvey Choci & Rev i salute u!!

Thanks for this. I had it on tape at the time but lost it many years ago. He did a balearic style mixtape also. If anyone has one of those or even better a recording from the Zap. I have a tape of the August ’89 Zap but the quality is very poor.

Harvey is the don.

I went to pretty much every Tonka. Also to Moist, the Brixton sessions and Big Lucky. Great times!

Hello to Felix, Tonka Robert, Steve, Marky, Chocci and Rev.
