Over the years licensing deals between record labels have thrown-up some tasty results.
When Eddie Pillar & Acid Jazz hooked up with LA based label Delicious Vinyl the brand new heavies benefited from heavy US promotion & dj remixes – check the lunar dub & eclipse mixes of stay this way by Dave Morales.
Eddie got the likes of Skate Master Tate & Dread Flimstone – from the early 90’s bass-heavy party business…revival pressure

As the guy that brought The Heavies to Mike Ross and Matt Dike, DV’s co-founders, it is worth pointing out in interest of accuracy, that The Heavies weren’t licensed to DV, they were signed directly as a group. Some of the legal lines on the first record say ‘licensed’ only because of the instrumental songs on the first album…where there wasn’t a need to re-record with N’Dea…who was a natural to pair with the group.
Eddie Pillar at the time though was very interested in licensing his entire label to Delicious’ in the States. Great musical match but would not of worked … overall. I’d forgotten about the Skatemaster Tate record… thanks for the post… you’re bookmarked.
Hi paul, many thanks for your comments & the clarification. bnh & n’dea is a brilliant pairing as was the heavy rhyme experience.
I’m pleased to see the heavies back releasing with the recent I don’t know why (I love you). it’s been on heavy rotation (the tom moulton mix). Your forthcoming tortured soul 12 sounds like a winner too…thanks dom
thanks dom – we have a new double heavies 12″ coming as well, with like 3 or 4 different tracks… btw.. the current embarassing DV website is going away soon to be upgraded with a proper CMS based site, exhaustive discography (all promos and commercial 12″, Lps)…were going to have a couple blog columns there… thinking of inviting a small group of existing bloggers like yourself… to make posts something like a record review column of other labels releases and what not… might help build a given bloggers ‘own’ site… i’m thinking is the attraction… sound like a reasonable idea? interest along those lines?
