Hailing from the Windy City of Chicago The 5 Stairsteps were dubbed “the First Family of Soul” because of a successful chart run for 5 years, this title was later passed on to the Jackson 5.
A close friend introduced the group to Curtis Mayfield who quickly signed them to his label Windy City. In the spring of 1970, the group released their million-seller and biggest pop hit, Ooh Child.
Later in their careers they recorded as The Invisible Man’s Band, it is believed they used this new name as they felt it might offend their loyal fans who had not associated the Stairsteps with disco.
Sampled by De La Soul & featured in the Hip-Hop movie Boyz N The Hood here it is for your listening pleasure.
