All about the strings…During his musical career saxophonist Stanley Turrentine released jazz, jazz funk fusion & soul jazz performing with organist Jimmy Smith, Bob James and Idris Muhammad releasing mainly through Blue Note & Fantasy Records.

blue magic - welcome to the club

Hailing from the City of Brotherly Love Blue Magic formed in 1973 when former Delfonic Randy Cain went in to the studio with singer-songwriter Ted Mills.

Signed to Atco/Atlantic Records in the same year. Blue Magic were one of the earliest acts produced by Norman Harris & had the very talented backing of the the MFSB house band.

Unreleased edits of “Welcome to the Club” circulated in Chicago during the early 1980s

night trains - miles away

Hugh Brooker’s Night Trains were signed to Acid Jazz & BGP Beat Goes Public.

Many of their releases had hip-hop leanings featuring cartoon cut-ups, breaks, cinema samples & scratching.

Here is Miles Away taken from the Checkmate LP released on BGP - a track constructed from a trumpet solo (Miles) and some programming - simple & effective.
