DJ Cosmo (a.k.a Colleen Murphy) first began working at a record store in Boston, and it was music, too, that decided her pick of college: N.Y.U had a radio station and pretty soon she stepped up to become programming director of the station. After visiting parties at The Loft in ‘91, she invited David Mancuso to play on her radio show. Next, as the legendary DJ became a friend and musical mentor to Cosmo, she began spinning at The Loft alongside people such as Francois K., Lil Louis, Danny Krivit and managed the original Dancetracks record store with Joe Clausell by day. With friend Nikki Lucas she established the label Bitches Brew in London, founded a publishing company and released her own Ch’I productions as well as a host of other music. She is also a founding member of the Lucky Cloud Sound System, which puts on parties with David Mancuso (the Loft) at the Light in London four times a year.
“She’s very devoted and very pure about the music. She’s one of the only people I would trust, both with the music and with the equipment, to fill in for me.”
David Mancuso.
In January this year, Cosmo came to play in Nottingham at a party hosted by Basement Boogaloo at The Maze. She has kindly given us permission to post the recording that we made of her set for your listening pleasure….

Keep up with Cosmo via My Space, Cosmodelica, her regular show on Samurai FM, Cosmic Music, Bitches Brew and Lucky Cloud.

This firm LUSS fave goes out to Andre the disco dog who celebrated his birthday with a disco set that set the floor spinning at Moog on Saturday night courtesy of Basement Boogaloo. Great to see Catboy, The Gorilla and Crazy P boys and so many people of hood town getting down.

Well it’s absolutely wazzing it down in Nottingham today, so you’ll find us indoors, basking in the glow of a golden nugget of 24 carat disco boogie. Dave Lee re-edited this Billy Nichols produced track before compiling it on the Soul Of Disco, but it’s here without his handprint. A sublime piece of disco boogie, here is the spacier instrumental on side B….
