Underground disco 45, “Magic Mandrake” from the Sarr Band, released on the Calendar label in the UK as both a 7″ & 12″ single with Double Action as a Double A side and also on the Canadian Unidisc record label.
Big with the Love Unlimited & many DJ’s in the UK & US (it was re-edited by Rahaan for his jisco records release) & has featured on many a mix from the States. With a distinctly European sound the vocal is nice & sleazy & has the killer line “Turn this dirty city into a rosepetal garden.”
This acts as a nice little taster for the next installment of our series of mixes courtesy of the Chuck Brothers that will be added to the love unlimited mixes archive soon.

btw flip of the 12 is actually “double action” not impact… total banger, maybe even better than mandrake?!

cheers mark
Great Song!
This has totally made my day! Just fabulous.
So many years since I’ve heard this song. I’d forgotten just how awesome the sax solo was.
I always did prefer Mephisto though. It’s just too weird/funny a song to ever forget!
Cheers Martin, glad you found it agian. Thanks for passing through & leaving a comment
splendid tune, one of my faves and its uk as well
I have a copy of this on 12″ Vinyl but a different cover from the one above.
Its got a picture of a woman’s feet with her knickers round her ankles!
Side A has Magic Mandrake.
Side B has Double Action.
In very good condition too. I came across this website as I am selling a big chunk of my record collection and cannot find out anything to do with this record. How much is it worth?
If any of you fine people could maybe help out I would appreciate it!
Hi Tom, the scan is of the seven cover, think it’s a Belgium release, rather than the knickers disco bag for the 12″ you have.
Cheers
